- Educate the public about birds, other wildlife, and the importance of their habitats;
- Advocate responsible public policy and personal behavior that respects, conserves, and restores wildlife habitat; and
- Provide opportunities for people to enjoy nature.

MWBA History
The Audubon Society of Corvallis was founded in 1971 as a non-profit, tax-exempt (501(c)(3) organization by a group of local birders and conservationists. Although we are a chapter of the National Audubon Society, our members pay dues locally, which go toward funding our local activities. The name was changed to Mid-Willamette Bird Alliance in 2025.
We encourage the community to understand wildlife, their habitats, and their importance to the entire world. Our activities include:
- Hosting monthly speakers on topics related to birds, conservation, and natural history. Speaker presentations are free and open to the public.
- Leading birdwatching and other natural history trips locally, regionally, and internationally.
- Presenting programs for elementary schoolchildren, including programs on raptors, nesting behavior, and shorebirds.
- Providing additional educational opportunities for kids and adults through Open House and Sunday programs at Hesthavn Nature Center, and at other locations for Winter Wildlife Field Day, Girl Scouts, Chintimini Open House, Get Outdoor Day at Peavy Arboretum, and many others.
- Monitoring nesting success of Western Bluebirds through the activities of the Bluebird Trail.
- Distributing The Chat newsletter 10 months per year in digital format. A limited number of hard copies will be sent to people who request them through May 2021. Copies of The Chat are stored on the website and at Oregon State University’s library.
- Restoring Hesthavn Nature Center and Hesthavn grounds.
- Keeping members apprised of current legislation and policy related to birds, other wildlife, and habitat. We are a non-partisan organization and do not campaign on behalf of candidates.
